As you probably already know, the big, colourful city of Toronto is home to a annual Christmas market, located in the Distillery District (which, by the way, is an amazing tourist spot year round, and i would totally recommend taking a day trip down there regardless of the season). This fun winter event is held from around mid-November to late December (usually December 23rd), but I'm not giving specific dates because they do change yearly.
I have been to this market a total of 2 times, and each time I had been equally impressed. Aside from the warm, holiday feeling you get right when you walk in, there are beautiful holiday lights all around, and the decor is absolutely stunning and worth a picture if you're looking for the perfect holiday moment for your Instagram feed.
In this article, I'm going to quickly walk you through an evening at the market might look like for you, and special tips and tricks to look out for.
Now before we begin, I must warn you, during weekends, or busy times, you might have to book a reservation. This is because it can get VERY busy. We usually go right after school on a weekday, so we can just walk right in and not have it be super busy. Although, we did go on a weekend once, and the only main issue we had with waiting was waiting to get into a restaurant. We eventually got in, and it didn't take that long, so if you have to, it's not awful to go on a weekend.
As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with many aesthetic and nice places to take pictures, but sometimes there'll be a line. Usually all of the shops that are in the distillery district are open. Beware though, on weekends, there are lines in front of the good picture spots.
For food, you can either buy snacks from the little shops all around, such as soft pretzels, and chocolates, or for a more meal like option, you can eat at a restaurant. The outdoor restaurant may seem too cold for you, but there are so many heaters it honestly just feels like an indoor restaurant. There is a restaurant that is indoors, though. Both have great food, but get there early on busy days to save reservations! There are also a ton of fun activities to do. For example, there are tunnels of lights you can walk through, and a ferris wheel that is king of on the more thrill side. Now, I am a thrill seeker when it comes to rides, but this ride is an older ride, so it can actually be quite scary! It is fun, but does cost money. They have a ticket booth where you can buy your tickets to ride out front. Another fun activity is the stage. It is near the beautiful, massive Christmas tree in the middle. On the stage, they sing Christmas carols, and catchy tunes. They might also do concerts? I am not actually sure on that one.
The market also features a huge 'Countdown to Christmas' sign, and it really gets you in the spirit!
That's my quick summary of things to do, and tricks for the Toronto Christmas Market. It's 100% worth a stop, and I would recommend it to anyone. Just remember not to lose anyone in your group in the crowds on weekends! I hope you enjoyed this blog, and continue reading future blogs on this website! Adios!
